Anri Okhanashvili: we need to agree once again about the ways to secure our children from ongoing risks and threats without prejudice to human rights

Anri Okhanashvili: we need to agree once again about the ways to secure our children from ongoing risks and threats without prejudice to human rights

“There are the issues considered behind the scenes that cannot penetrate certain barriers to reach our society. Our direct duty and obligation are to discuss them with you – the issues that are relevant for the authorities behind the scenes. We may in certain forms abstain from openly discussing them, however, it is time to verify the position of the absolute majority of our society”, - the Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, Anri Okhanashvili stated at the public consideration of the Draft Constitutional Laws in Gori.

According to him, the society has already agreed that a family in Georgia is recognized as a union of a man and a woman, which is reinforced under the Constitutional record of 2017.

“At that, we observe the tendencies that are recently intensifying abroad. We analyze those requests that are submitted to the supreme legislative body, which concern our families, all the persons who respect family values and the protection of the interests of minors, who aspire to protect our children from this propaganda”.

As he elucidated, some time ago, the necessity arose to regulate gender teaching in schools and kindergartens at the legal level.

“At first glance, these are innocent aspects since they are packed as a conversation about equality, however, the in-depth scrutiny revealed that all these aspects aimed at the achievement of the goal to allow same-sex persons to have children, who shall not feel suppressed and insulted and that it should explained to children from very kindergartens that same-sex families exist who have children. Correspondingly, other children shall acknowledge it as an ordinary situation. But our response was a categorical refusal. Our Government will never admit an introduction of such a record to the legislation and hence, these processes were relevant last year and are relevant today”, - he stated.

According to him, the ideology is being escalated to somehow get rooted in our country. As he noted, the process of legalization of same-sex marriage has intensified abroad for the last decade, which enhances the necessity for us to manifest particular attention and readiness.

“As soon as we legalize same-sex marriage, it instantly leads to the next step – admission of the adoption by same-sex families, and admission of gender-affirming surgeries. Which consequently leads to the admission of these concepts to kindergartens. We do not intend to discuss or estimate different lifestyles, we never judge but when hearing the assertions that being naturally born as a man or a woman means nothing and thus, witnessing the attempts of propaganda – our task assigned to us is to eliminate and prevent all these propaganda and promotions”, - he stated.

Per his elucidation, there are numerous organizations established in Georgia with the objective of holding the propaganda of such a lifestyle, ensuring the legalization of same-sex marriage and applying this ideology to Georgian society, which takes immense funds.

“Hence, we are here to hear your position once again. Our society shall be consolidated, having an intact opinion about the way we need to build our country”, - he stated.
