Eka Sepashvili Delivering Speech at Internet Governance Forum

Eka Sepashvili, First Deputy Chairperson of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, participated in the Internet Governance Forum, where, during the thematic session "Disinformation: Challenges in the Georgian Internet", she addressed the participants and dwelt on the role of Parliament in the fight against disinformation.

E. Sepashvili stressed the need for changes in this area in order to adequately respond to the new demands and challenges of modernity.

As she elucidated, the process of preparing the changes will be widely inclusive and will involve representatives of the executive branch, as well as media outlets, NGOs, and civil society.

The Internet Governance Forum GeoIGF is an annual conference established in 2015 with the support of the Council of Europe, which as of now has more than 30 members from various fields.

The forum was hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Communications Commission, and the Internet Society of Georgia (ISOC Georgia).

The forum is organized by the Georgian Telecommunications Operators Association.

The institutional partner is the Council of Europe.

The forum is also supported by international organizations: ISOC, ICANN, and RIPE NCC.

The forum annually brings together up to 200 people, including representatives of the governmental and non-governmental sectors in the field of the Internet, experts from international and local organizations, private companies, academia, and youth sector participants.

The forum is a multifaceted platform for discussing current issues and projects raised during the year in the field of electronic communications and information technology development in the country.
