The First Deputy Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, Eka Sepashvili being the rapporteur on the thematic enquiry keeps her working meetings concerning the consumers’ rights.
Today, she met with the representatives of the National Competition Agency, National Communications Commission, National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, and the Insurance State Supervision Service to discuss the final enactment of the Law on Protection of Consumers Rights scheduled on November 1, as well as the responsible for the enforcement – National Competition Agency to assume the respective authority as of the hereof moment. According to her, it is paramount to identify the degree of the preparedness of the sector for the protection of consumers’ rights on the basis of the Law adopted in March 2022 in view of the legal approximation with the EU as one of the commitments of the Association Agreement.
“The practical application of the Law will constitute another step forward on our EU integration path facilitating the economic integration to the European area. The meeting was productive and interesting. The emphasis was made on the expectations of the attended Companies after the commencement of the enforcement of the Law. As clarified, Commissions are committed and equipped with higher standards of the protection of consumers’ rights than established under the Law. However, where the Law provides higher standard, naturally the respective regulations and provisions of the agencies will be amended in favor of the consumers”, - she stated.
