The First Deputy Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Giorgi Chakvetadze, and the Committee member, Vladimir Bozhadze participated in the awarding ceremony of the Tbilisi Basketball School League.


G. Chakvetadze addressed the project participants emphasizing that the School League plays a significant role in the development of mass and professional sports.


“The School League project commenced in 2019, spearheaded by the Tbilisi City Assembly. The initiative has garnered substantial support, with over 20,000 participants by 2025. Promoting a healthy lifestyle remains a cornerstone of our priorities, and the School League plays a pivotal role in this endeavor. We are committed to providing further support to the project”, - he stated.


V. Bozhadze also congratulated the participants of the event, organized by the Sports Management Association, with the initiative of the Tbilisi City Assembly Sports and Youth Affairs Commission and the support of Tbilisi City Hall and the Basketball Federation.


The project aims at the facilitation of the development of mass sports and the promotion of healthy lifestyles in schools. The School League is held under the aegis of the Children’s and School Sports National Federation.


The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the City Assembly and City Hall, the Basketball Federation, the Children’s and School Sports National Federation and the invited guests.


The School League is organizing 15 sports disciplines in Tbilisi and the regions for the 2024-2025 academic year. The program will involve the participation of over 20,000 children from approximately 500 schools.
