Ten years have passed since the establishment of the LEPL Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency. The anniversary event was held to mark this occasion, where the participants were addressed by the First Deputy Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Giorgi Khakhubia.

“The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency has played a significant role over the years in establishing and strengthening the field of nuclear and radiation safety in Georgia. Nuclear and radiation safety has a direct impact on state security, public health, and environmental protection. It is directly linked to the country’s sustainable and secure development. As a result of important reforms, the Agency’s capabilities have been strengthened, a risk-based approach has been introduced, and the procedures for issuing licenses and permits have been improved and digitized”, - Giorgi Khakhubia stated.

According to him, the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee is actively involved in refining the legislation and existing regulations in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.

“We continue to actively develop this field, which is essential for ensuring the country’s safe future and sustainable development. We also contribute at the international level to addressing challenges related to nuclear and radiation safety. I would like to congratulate the Environmental Protection and Agriculture Ministry, especially each employee of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency, on this anniversary”, - the Deputy Chair noted.

The participants of the anniversary event were also addressed by the Environmental Protection and Agriculture Minister, Davit Songulashvili, and the Education, Science and Youth Minister, Givi Mikanadze, who spoke about the role and importance of the Agency’s activities.

At the event, representatives of the legislative and executive authorities awarded certificates of appreciation to rectors of higher educational institutions, heads of medical clinics and centers, and distinguished employees of the Agency for their contributions to the development of the field.
