Ilia Injia, Varlam Liparteliani and Nika Elisashvili leaving the Parliamentary Majority to set up the Opposition Political Group “European Socialists”

An Opposition Political Group “European Socialists” is being established in the Parliament as announced by MP Ilia Injia at the briefing today.
Ilia Injia will be joined in a new political group by MPs Varlam Liparteliani and Nika Elisashvili, who also depart from the Parliamentary Majority.
According to I. Injia, they strictly adhered to the principles of collegiality and notified the Majority about their decision.
“The mandates of the representatives of three opposition unions have been terminated. I presume it generates new opportunities for the establishment of a new political culture in Georgia. When the parliamentary opposition is preoccupied with polarization and fostering animosity rather than being focused on constructive criticism and the development of novel initiatives that will effectively govern the state and facilitate its rapid advancement, we have made the decision to establish a parliamentary opposition group on the base of the “European Socialists.” Our attitude towards the radical opposition remains as principal as it was. We are committed to employing all available measures to prevent the resurgence of the National Movement and the regress of our nation to the oppressive era of the past. At that juncture, our mission is to exercise a healthy opposition function, which implies effectively overseeing the Government and the Parliamentary Majority, and submitting legal initiatives. Additionally, we engage in substantiated disputes with the Parliamentary Majority to ensure a better future for the country. No viable democratic system can be established without robust opposition. I am confident that our activity will play a significant role in the formation of the political systems oriented to the development of the country”, - I. Injia noted.
