Mariam Lashkhi and Giorgi Chakvetadze Attended the Award Ceremony for the Winners of the Georgian National Prize Competition

Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Mariam Lashkhi and her First Deputy, Giorgi Chakvetadze attended the award ceremony for the winners of the Georgian National Prize competition.

The laureates of the National Prize were addressed by the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili; the Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Givi Mikanadze; the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, Mariam Lashkhi; as well as the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth and Chairperson of the National Prize Commission, Zviad Gabisania.

“The Georgian National Prize is a recognition of the intellectual work that forms the foundation of our science and defines the future of our country. Today, we are recognizing outstanding achievements in modern physics, research into the history of Georgia, philosophy, and cultural studies. These works are not merely academic texts; they guarantee the continuity of our national science and the development of new theoretical and applied fields that are recognized not only in Georgia but also in the international academic community. As the Chair of the Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, it is a great honor for me to witness the recognition of your work,” - Mariam Lashkhi stated in her address.

She emphasized that the economic development of the country is based on intellectual resources. According to Mariam Lashkhi, it is the responsibility of the state to ensure proper recognition of scientists, to improve legislation in the field of science, and to support the creative ideas of the younger generation.

“For this very reason, work is underway on the codification of science-related legislation. This will establish a legal framework that ensures the comprehensive development of scientific activity. Our main task is to stimulate interest in science among the younger generation. State recognition of your achievements is an appreciation of this continuous academic tradition and a strong source of inspiration for future scientists,” - Mariam Lashkhi noted.

President Mikheil Kavelashvili presented awards to the winners of the Georgian National Prize competition.

At the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, the National Prize was awarded to Levan Japaridze for a cycle of scientific works: Mechanics of Underground Structures, Calculation of Supports of Underground Structures in Limit States, and Ultimate Serviceability States of Underground Structures.

The National Prize was also awarded to a group of authors—Roin Metreveli, Vakhtang Guruli, Lela Mikiashvili, Valerian Vashakidze, Giorgi Cheishvili, Otar Janelidze, Joni Kvitsiani, and Aleksandre Daushvili—for the scientific monographic work History of the Caucasus (three-volume edition).
