Vice Speaker of Parliament Nino Tsilosani and Chair of the Agriculture Committee Gela Samkharauli held a meeting to discuss the implementation of the Law“On the Reduction of Food Loss and Waste and Food Donation”.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Food Agency of Georgia, the retail chain Carrefour, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the charitable organization Enkenia, as well as entrepreneurs involved in the process.

As noted during the meeting, a significant portion of food products is destroyed before reaching consumers, underscoring the necessity of the law’s full and effective implementation.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of active involvement by municipalities. It was emphasized that reducing food waste has a substantial environmental impact, as otherwise such products end up in landfills and contribute to environmental pollution.

Participants confirmed that cooperation on matters related to the law will continue in the future.
