Paata Kvizhinadze: the State Audit Office is one of the most successful state agencies in Georgia

“The Audit Office serves as the Parliament’s “eyes”, a principle also upheld in Europe. The Parliament lacks a comparable mechanism to monitor the expenditure of the 35.5-billion-GEL Budget. The State Audit Office is one of Georgia’s most successful state agencies, characterised by high-quality independence, reliability, qualifications and impartiality. This is affirmed in assessments by the EU and international organisations and the unconditional opinions of the G4 auditing companies”, - Paata Kvizhinadze, Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, stated at the plenary session upon the consideration of the Audit Office’s 2024 activity.
He underlined the significance of the Audit Group in the Parliament and reviewed the challenges that the Audit Office faces at the current stage.
“The Audit Office has issued significant recommendations, the majority of which are being implemented. However, 6% remain unfulfilled at the central level. The share of pending recommendations has been decreasing recently due to the Audit Group’s efforts, but the issues persist. We have agreed with Mr Giorgi Gabitashvili to discuss this matter, taking into account both objective and subjective reasons that will be addressed. This may necessitate legal amendments or indicate operational gaps within a specific agency”, - he noted.
