At a sitting of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, Parliamentary Secretary of the Government Vakhtang Bachiashvili presented, in the I reading, the draft law on Remuneration in Public Institutions.

According to the draft law, deputy ministers of the Government of Georgia, deputy members of the governments of the Autonomous Republics of Abkhazia and Ajara, deputy state representatives, and deputy mayors of municipalities will be eligible, under relevant conditions, to receive salary supplements and monetary bonuses.

Vakhtang Bachiashvili explained that these officials may receive salary supplements for overtime work and/or the performance of additional duties, including work during nighttime hours, weekends or public holidays, and under hazardous working conditions, based on a decision by a superior official. As for monetary bonuses, they may be awarded for the exemplary and conscientious performance of assigned duties, as well as for carrying out tasks of special complexity or importance.

The Parliamentary Secretary also spoke about proposed amendments related to increasing the number of persons employed in public institutions under administrative contracts.

According to the amendment, the number of employees hired under administrative contracts must not exceed 15% of the total staff positions of a public institution. Under the current legislation, the limit is set at 10%.

According to the presenter, this amendment will not apply to institutions subordinate to municipal executive bodies.

The Committee approved the draft.
