Statement by the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia

Pursuant to the Organic Law of Georgia on Common Courts and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Georgia:

The Parliament of Georgia, on September 30, 2022, announces the competition for the election of 5 members of the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia.

A Georgian citizen with a master's degree or an equivalent academic degree or diploma of higher education, at least five years of experience in the specialty, a solid reputation, and who is a recognized expert in the legal field may be chosen by the Parliament to serve on the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia.

A judge, a prosecutor, or a member of the Parliament may not be proposed as a candidate for the position of member of the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia.

The applicants for the membership of the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia will be selected by:

a) Professors and researchers working in higher educational institutions of Georgia;

b) Members of the Georgian Bar Association;

c) Persons nominated by non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities of Georgia.

The collegial governing bodies of the following organizations hold the right to nominate candidates for membership of the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia:

a) Higher educational institution of Georgia;

b) Georgian Bar Association;

c) Non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entity of Georgia.

A non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entity has the right to nominate a candidate for membership of the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia, if one of the fields of activity of the above non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities shall be, for at least the last two years before the announcement of the competition, participation with representative authority in court proceedings.

No more than three candidates may be submitted to the Parliament by one organization.

The deadline for nominations is October 20, 2022.

Candidature submissions must be accompanied by:

a) Recommendation letter;

b) Candidate's business biography;

c) Copy of identity card or passport;

d) Copy of the certificate of higher legal education;

e) Copy of a document confirming at least 5 years of experience in the specialty;

f) List of published works on legal issues (if applicable);

g) Written consent of the candidate;

h) If the nominee of the candidate is a non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entity - proof that one of the fields of activity of the above non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities is, for at least the last two years before the announcement of the competition, participation with representative authority in court proceedings.

The submission shall be made in the name of the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, in writing to the following address: Tbilisi, Rustaveli Avenue N8 or to the e-mail address: contact@parliament.ge.
