Members of the Parliamentary Delegation Met with the Head of the Georgia Friendship Group in the Italian Senate

As part of an official visit to Italy, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze and the delegation members held a meeting with the head of the Georgia Friendship Group in the Italian Senate, Marco Silvestroni.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for deepening parliamentary relations. Particular attention was paid to establishing more active communication between the friendship groups and the importance of exchanging bilateral visits.

The discussion also touched upon the domestic political situation in Georgia, including developments following 2024. The Georgian side provided the Italian senator with detailed information regarding the political environment and ongoing processes in the country.

One of the main topics of the meeting was relations between Tbilisi and Brussels. It was noted that certain EU member states have demonstrated what was described as an unfair attitude toward Georgia and instances of interference in the country’s internal affairs.

The delegation members expressed hope that Italy would become more actively involved in facilitating dialogue between Georgia and the European Union in order to restore communication between Tbilisi and Brussels.

For its part, the Italian side confirmed its readiness to support constructive and open dialogue between Georgia and the European Union, including on all existing critical issues.

Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze is on an official visit to Rome together with the delegation.

The delegation also includes First Deputy Chair of the EU Integration Committee and Head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of the Italian Republic Vakhtang Turnava, as well as First Deputy Chair of the Legal Issues Committee Tornike Cheishvili.
