Media and Society 11 Sep 2023
Meeting of Vladimir Kakhadze with the Representative Delegation of the World Diabetes Foundation

The First Deputy Chair of the Health Care and Social Issues Committee, Vladimir Kakhadze held a meeting with the Representative Delegation of the World Diabetes Foundation. The Delegation is composed of all members of the WFD Board of Directors and the heads of other units.

The parties concentrated on the role of the Parliament, as well as standalone structures and agencies in Georgia in diabetes prevention, management and promotion of healthy lifestyle.

According to V. Kakhadze, this is problem lingering for years, although all the parties contribute to addressing the issue, and the role of the Parliament is of no less significance in this process inasmuch as it facilitated the establishment of the uninterrupted monitoring on the first group diabetes.

“The guests asked about our policy on diabetes, cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities in solution of the related problems etc. and were provided with comprehensive information. They approved the efficiency of the monitoring system. Besides, they resume the fulfillment of six projects that they undertake in Georgia. It is paramount that they affirmed their positive attitude to Georgia and expressed their commitment to further cooperating. As it was reiterated, Georgia is incapable of independently curbing diabetes, since, cooperation and sharing experience are imperative".

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Board of the Alliance of Noncommunicable Disease Prevention, Simon Gabrichidze.

The Delegation, within the framework of their 5-day visit, will meet the partners and beneficiaries of the projects they fund to discuss the WFD-funded projects, related activities and outcomes, as well as the acute problems in diabetes management and cooperation prospects.

WFD is the key funder of diabetes prevention and treatment projects in low and average-income countries. In 2002-2022, the Foundation allocated 197,7 ml EURO for 595 projects in 119 countries across the globe.
