The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee reviewed and approved the Draft Law on the Procedure for Enforcing Non-Custodial Sentences and Probation and the companion Bills for the expedited procedure.
The Draft envisages the granting of a state special rank to the personnel of the LEPL operating under the Justice Ministry, the “National Agency for Crime Prevention, Execution of Non-Custodial Sentences and Probation”.
The bill also defines the legal status of the Agency’s personnel, the guarantees of their legal protection, as well as matters related to service for employees holding a state special rank.
Under the amendments, an offender assessed as low-risk and a person conditionally released before the expiration of the sentence will be able to report to any probation bureau throughout the territory of Georgia.
The Draft is authored by the Justice Ministry and initiated by the Government.
