Anri Okhanashvili: the regulations prescribed under the Constitutional Law meet the challenges that we may subsequently acutely encounter

“We meet today to discuss the protection of family values and minors. Some may presume whether these issues are relevant but life and especially ideologies evolve and we recently witness the tendency abroad which puts the natural birth as a woman or a man under doubt. This tendency starts to prevail and we need to ponder about the solutions”, - the Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, Anri Okhanashvili stated at the public consideration of the Draft Constitutional Law on Protection of Family Values and Minors and the Draft Constitutional Changes in Borjomi.

According to him, family values are particularly safeguarded in our country, which is further reinforced under the Constitutional agreement between the state and the Orthodox Church.

“It is a case when it is expedient to discuss these issues with the population since the LGBT propaganda has been intensely financed in recent years through certain NGOs. We even heard direct instigation and requests in the Parliament to introduce the regulations to the legislation allowing certain organizations and their affiliated entities to inculcate the concept of same-sex life and adoption by same-sex persons in kindergartens and schools. However, our position was categorically strict that no such record would be introduced to the legislation. Hence, we now need to disclose our position that we have been discussing behind the scenes”.

According to him, it is a chain and as soon as the state legalizes same-sex marriage, it will instantly impose an obligation of the issue of respective documents or certificates by the state or municipal bodies providing records “parent 1” and “parent 2”.

“It will as a chain reaction lead to the fact that this concept shall be established as a subject in schools and kindergartens explaining to children what same-sex persons or same-sex families mean that a person may be born as a man or a woman in a natural way but gender only depends on their perception. We have overcome this stage with our position about the inadmissibility of the introduction of this record to the state documents”.

A. Okhanashvili underlined that no one intends to estimate others’ lives since all privacies regardless of a lifestyle shall be protected. The authorities aspire to prevent any form of discrimination.

“The regulations we introduce fully and adequately meet the challenges that we may subsequently acutely meet. Hence, we need an instant response. The British Prime Minister had to even underline that a man is a man and a woman is a woman and no other opinion may exist. It evidences the fact that this very statement by the British Prime Minister derives from the pressing situation”, - he stated.
