At the sitting of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Varlam Liparteliani was elected as the First Deputy Chair of the Committee. Committee members congratulated Mr. Liparteliani on his election and wished him success in his parliamentary work.
At the same session, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, presented the draft law "On Amendments to the Law of Georgia on the Establishment and Management of Borjomi-Kharagauli Protected Areas" for its first reading.
According to the draft, part of the Borjomi State Reserve—specifically, a 283-hectare area—will be granted the status of a national park. As noted by N. Tandilashvili, the proposed amendment is related to forest restoration works in the Likani area.
"Due to the protected area status, it is currently not possible to clear forest stands that have been damaged and are in the process of drying out. Granting national park status to this territory will enable the legal entity under public law—the Agency of Protected Areas—to actively manage forest protection and restoration", – stated N. Tandilashvili.
The Committee supported the draft law in its first reading, which is being considered under the accelerated procedure.
