"I recall in 2015, when the Supreme Court of the United States of America legalized same-sex marriage, we reacted to this development with a smile. However, it was forewarned that it could spread, and unfortunately, it did. That's why we want to prevent it and enshrine it in the basic law, so that no future government can do the same", - Guram Macharashvili, a member of the parliamentary political group "People's Power", stated in Telavi, at the meeting of the Steering Commission of the Universal-Public Review of Constitutional Amendments with the people.
According to him, same-sex marriage is being actively promoted in the world today, although there are people in Europe and America who protect family values and oppose LGBT propaganda.
"It's true that as a nation, as an ethnos, we will never accept this as a norm. However, legally, we also need robust constitutional norms and laws to ensure this. We aim to regulate the protection of our identity at the legislative level. Our slogan will always be - homeland, language, faith", - Guram Macharashvili stated.
