Guram Macharashvili: as a result of the Committee hearings, the Candidates for the Supreme Court Judges will be individually voted at the Plenary Session

“The interviewing of the candidates for the Supreme Court Judges was held in a transparent way. We have one candidate left and hence, all the Committees shall express their positions. We will also hold consultations and then vote for the candidates in the Committees and at the plenary session individually”, - the member of the Legal Issues Committee, Guram Macharashvili stated after the sitting.

Today, the Committee heard 2 candidates – Bidzina Sturua and Lasha Kochiashivli – the first holds 9 years of experience and the second – 13.

The candidates answered the questions of the Faction “Georgian Dream”, political groups “Citizens” and “European Socialists”, non-Faction MPs, non-parliamentary Subjects – Bar Association, Legal Service, and NGOs (GYLA, and Democracy Index).

The interviewing of 9 candidates started on July 6.

Tomorrow, the Committee will hear the last candidate – Giorgi Shavliashvili. On June 255, the High Council of Justice nominated 9 candidates to the Parliament.

The process is monitored by the OSCE/ODIHR representatives.
