Meeting of Irakli Kadagishvili with NDI Experts

Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Rules and Procedural Issues Committee, met with experts from the National Democratic Institute (NDI) to discuss the parliamentary control mechanisms.

I. Kadagishvili expanded on the oversight functions of the Committee.

"Mr. Ken Macintosh also mentioned, and we agreed, that the Parliament's Rules of Procedure are of a high standard and reflect the best European experience, allowing the Parliament to effectively exercise parliamentary control, which is one of the legislature's main functions, according to the Constitution.

We also emphasized that one factor is the good quality of the law, but enforcement is equally crucial. For my part, I believe that both the legislative and the government should work to improve the growth of this tradition. We're talking about creating a new approach - in the shape of a textbook or a set of guidelines - to make it easier to employ the parliamentary control mechanism consistently and successfully”, - Irakli Kadagishvili remarked.
