Maia Bitadze, Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, held a meeting with the representatives of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) mission to deliberate on the climate change-related legal reforms.

She meticulously reviewed the draft climate laws drafted by her Committee, employing a highly innovative approach. She explained that the development of these draft laws was guided by the composition of the so-called advisory documents of the Green and Red Books, and it was actively collaborated with the Environmental Protection and Agriculture Ministry throughout the process.

As she underscored, the Climate Law will establish a comprehensive legal framework to ensure the uniform regulation of the currently fragmented climate change norms dispersed across various legal instruments.

During the meeting, the parties underscored the paramount importance of the establishment of the greenhouse gas emissions monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) system. This commitment is enshrined in the Energy Community Treaty, one of the primary objectives of which entails the nation’s readiness for the emission trade.

M. Bitadze thanked the AIIB representatives for visiting Georgia and expressed her commitment to further cooperating with the Bank.
