Nino Tsilosani, the Vice-Speaker, participates in the ceremony of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Azerbaijan in Baku.
The Vice-Speaker addressed the attendees on behalf of the Georgian Parliament.
“It is a great honor for me to deliver this address on the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the historic building of the Milli Mejlis. Our nations became independent at the same time, in 1991 and our countries’ constitutions were adopted in the same year, 1995, exactly 30 years ago. The adoption of our constitutions was not a simple historical or legislative act. More importantly, it was the beginning of an epoch, an era of constitutionally reinforced independent statehood”, - she stated.
According to her, the adoption of the constitution, both in Georgia and Azerbaijan, signified to the whole world that there would be no return to the history of foreign power dominance over our nations. By historic act, the two countries signified that their peoples took the responsibility before their past and future, before their ancestors and descendants, that they have the ambition to build independent, sovereign, and prosperous contemporary states.
“Ever since 1995, for three decades, our nations strengthened our independence, developed our economies, solidified our international ties, and powerfully claimed our dignified place on the political map of independent and sovereign nations.
However, even today, 30 years after the adoption of our constitutions, and 34 years after the recognition of our national independence, we are facing international challenges to our nations’ genuine sovereignty.
Nevertheless, we are facing the international trend whereas foreign politicians speak on behalf of other nations, which goes contrary to the very essence of popular democracy. Foreign interference and national sovereignty are incompatible, even contradictory.
Such attempts against the legitimately elected governments indicate that securing sovereignty and independence is a daily struggle and the most important objective of the Georgian and Azerbaijani governments. Our commitment to our people’s future has a strong foundation in our national Constitutions. We cherish and respect our people’s will, enshrined in these historic documents”, - she noted.
Within the framework of the visit, N. Tsilosani commemorated the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, paying tribute at his grave.
The Vice-Speaker, in the company of other participants of the conference, visited the Shehid Alley and laid the wreath on the Memorial of “Eternal Flame”.
