The Parliament, within the Ministerial Hour, heard the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Tea Tsulukiani, reporting on the activities performed by the Ministry in terms of the directions within the agency's competence.
The Minister brought up the culture code development plan, stressing that the code would be ratified by the Parliament of the 10th convocation.
"This is most likely one of the most significant and fundamental measures that this convocation of the Georgian Parliament will ratify before the end of its term. First and foremost, this is a reform of theaters' legislative status, which means a change of the Law on Professional Theaters", - Tea Tsulukiani noted.
According to the Minister, it is important to divide theaters into categories.
The Minister spoke about the value of upgrading and preserving museums and their foundations and paid particular attention to the issue of funding various forms of sports.
She claims that the new sports palace's construction and furnishings cost more than 96 million GEL.
"The new sports complex cost our state more than 96 million GEL to design, build and equip. The design and building of the new sports complex cost 90,600,000 GEL, while equipment and other connected costs came to 6,100,000 GEL. A wonderful privilege“, - Tea Tsulukiani noted.
She claims that Digomi, Tbilisi, would have an ice rink constructed there that will meet international standards and have room for 15,000 spectators.
The Minister claims that a new sports university would be established in Tbilisi, on Chavchavadze Avenue, in the same location as the current outdated structure, by the year 2025.
The Minister explained that the sambo hall, which is next to the University of Sports building, will likewise be constructed entirely from scratch, either in the same location or in Dighomi, on land designated just for it. She claims that the anti-doping bill is almost finished and that it is already possible to start the process.
"I would like to request of the Georgian Parliament that starting in 2017, both the government and the Parliament work to finish the anti-doping legislation. Now that the draft law has received unanimous approval and can be implemented, we are essentially at the end of the process. You can start the reform now in accordance with the outcomes of the working meeting with the European Council and the International Anti-Doping Organization that took place on April 21", - Tea Tsulukiani stated.
According to the Minister, the funds of the art museum were partially filled.
She focused on the reform implemented in the direction of monument protection.
The Minister mentioned that there is no longer a chance of wall murals breaking off in the western and northern sections of the main temple of the Gelati complex when discussing the current construction at Gelati.
She claims they are awaiting the UNESCO mission to reevaluate if the work is being done correctly.
"The main church, which is named after the Mother of God, specifically its western and northern wings, was under jeopardy, not the entire complex. These issues began in 2008 and won't be resolved until December 2020. The western and northern wings of the main temple were severely threatened for many years by it. I won't respond to what occurred before March 2021 because our ministry was founded in that month”, - Tea Tsulukiani added.
According to the Minister, on September 26, the Ministry together with the Cinema Center will for the first time announce a competition for the development of the script for the miniseries.
"I believe that the Georgian film industry should specialize in producing Georgian TV series. This year, we'll pay for the script's development. Georgia's recent history, legendary literature from Georgia, and Georgian sports should all be covered in the series. We're talking about a fiction series with a maximum of 5 seasons, therefore it can't be a documentary, each lasting between 45 and 60 minutes. With the successful bidders, we anticipate spending 10,000 GEL on the creation of each series”, - Tea Tsulukiani noted.
The Minister answered the questions of the MPs.
