"While everyone is entitled to their freedom, we cannot permit the dissemination of propaganda to minors, especially within educational institutions. It's imperative that we collectively brainstorm strategies to shield our future generation, our minors, from the propagation of these pseudo-liberal values, which have the potential to erode the fabric of our society", - Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee, stated in Telavi, at the meeting of the Steering Commission of the Universal-Public Review of Constitutional Amendments with the people.
According to him, the development of the pseudo-liberal direction sometimes cannot even be understood.
"Understanding such trends can indeed be challenging. It's important to recognize that this goes beyond human rights—it's about propaganda. The unchecked dissemination of such ideas has contributed to a significant rise in the number of individuals in Europe grappling with identity issues. When children are introduced to these topics from kindergarten age, when such occurrences become normalized, and when children are told they are simply "children" without any gender distinction until they decide for themselves as they grow up, it inevitably leaves a mark on society. We are discussing the need for protection from such influences, safeguarding ourselves from these developments", - Tengiz Sharmanashvili stated.
According to him, the ruling party has adopted an anti-discrimination law, it is not allowed to persecute people because of some views or lifestyle, however, it should not be allowed to promote this topic.
"In 1995, during the adoption of Georgia's constitution, the section concerning family regulation stated that it is a union of spouses. At that time, the concept of a spouse being anything other than a woman and a man never crossed anyone's mind. However, times have changed. Global trends have evolved in ways unforeseen, prompting us in 2017 to specify "Woman and Man." Back then, we believed that the threat was behind us and that there were no further dangers on the horizon. However, since 2017, new threats have emerged. There has been a push to propagate the idea that gender is not determined by biology but rather by choice. This is what we must now clarify in this draft law, where we have already included "genetically female" and "genetically male”, - Tengiz Sharmanashvili said.
