Tengiz Sharmanashvili: Values must be constitutionally protected; otherwise, we will not have a future

"When we adopted the 1995 constitution, the term "spouses" was used, implying that a spouse could only be a woman or a man. In 2017, we expanded the concept of family to include both men and women. Now, it appears that gender has become a matter of choice. We have reached a point where we have had to specify the word "genetic", - Tengiz Sharmanashvili, the Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee, stated at the public discussion regarding the constitutional drafts "On Amendments to the Constitution of Georgia" and "On Family Values and Protection of Minors" in Batumi.

According to Tengiz Sharmanashvili, society should support the constitutional changes and everyone should make an important decision together.

"Indeed, these values must be constitutionally protected; otherwise, we will not have a future. Therefore, I am confident that you will support these changes, and when we adopt the legislation, it will be a decision made not only by the parliament but by all of us", - Tengiz Sharmanashvili stated.
