Aleksandre Tabatadze: The counter-terrorism operation conducted today by the SSSG marks another successful initiative, Georgia's relevant agencies continue to combat international terrorism efficiently in close cooperation with international partners

"The counter-terrorism operation conducted today by the Counterterrorism Centre of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) in Tbilisi and across the regions marks another successful initiative. As a result, two Georgian citizens suspected of having links to an international terrorist network have been detained. Significant evidence, including materials allegedly confirming their connection with an international terrorist organization, was seized from their residences. Accordingly, the investigation continues under the relevant legal provisions", - Aleksandre Tabatadze, Chair of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, stated.

The Committee Chair commented on the nationwide counter-terrorism operation led by the SSSG, which resulted in the detention of the two individuals.

According to A. Tabatadze, operations of this nature demonstrate that Georgia’s security services are well-equipped and highly trained to identify, prevent, and respond to such incidents effectively.

"I would like to highlight that Georgia remains an active member of the international counter-terrorism system. The country’s relevant agencies continue to combat international terrorism efficiently in close cooperation with international partners. Notably, the U.S. Department of State's annual reports on terrorism consistently reflect Georgia positively, reaffirming the country’s status as a reliable partner of the United States", - A. Tabatadze added.

The SSSG’s coordinated counter-terrorism efforts involved simultaneous special operations across the country, resulting in the detention of two Georgian citizens. The investigation is being pursued under Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, addressing membership in a foreign terrorist organization and aiding terrorist activities.
