Shota Berekashvili participated in the Energy Community plenum

Shota Berekashvili, Chair of the Economic Policy Committee and Maia Bitadze, Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, participated in the Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum in Vienna.
According to Shota Berekashvili, Georgia’s presidency of the Energy Community in 2025 is not only a great honor but also a significant responsibility.
He emphasized that Georgia stands ready to actively contribute to the development of a sustainable, secure, and integrated European energy space.
“Energy is a strategic sector for our country. It is noteworthy that over the past decade, Georgia has made substantial and tangible progress both in strengthening energy supply security and in modernizing its infrastructure, thereby laying a solid foundation for a sustainable energy system. Georgia continues to align its legislation and market practices in the energy sector with European standards. Among the key achievements is the fulfillment of the unbundling obligation for the electricity and natural gas transmission system operator, in accordance with the Energy Community acquis.
Closer cooperation and further integration will create broader opportunities for the South Caucasus—Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia—to become a reliable energy and transit corridor, as well as a strong partner of the European Union in energy trade. Our goal is to build a secure, diversified, and modern energy system that will further strengthen Georgia’s position as a dependable partner and a connecting hub”, - stated Shota Berekashvili.
Representatives of the Contracting Parties to the Energy Community also took part in the Parliamentary Plenum.
