Tengiz Sharmanashvili: we need to resist the propaganda

“When we introduced a record to the Constitution of 1995 on the unity of the spouses, no one could imagine that the spouses would mean anything other than a man and a woman. When in 2017, we were developing the Draft Constitution, we had to specify the spouses into a man and a woman. And even it appeared not to be enough and now, we encounter the necessity to introduce the term “genetical woman and man”. The tendencies and developments worldwide already go beyond sanity. Thus, no need to discuss the adoption of this law. We witness a surreal situation and shall prevent it”, - the Deputy Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Tengiz Sharmanashvili stated in Ozurgeti at the universal-public consideration of the Draft Constitutional Changes and the Draft Constitutional Law on the Protection of Family Values and Minors.

According to him, human rights are paramount and the Anti-Discriminative Law has already been adopted a couple of years ago after the introduction of the record to the Constitution about the inadmissibility of any kind of discrimination; however, propaganda still is inadmissible.

“If you keep the book “Mein Kampf” by Hitler on a bookshelf in Germany, no one will arrest you for this but you cannot cite him in public – you will be detained by police officers the very moment. If you kept the forbidden books during the Soviet Union era, you would be for sure arrested. Now, you are free to keep anything at home but you will never be allowed to start the propaganda of these ideas. All this is insane. The rapidity of the developments does not even spare a moment for us to perceive and acknowledge the situation. We need to resist the propaganda, or else, any grown-up is free to do and act his/her own way”, - the Majority MP stated.

He named the countries the legislations of which admit gender affirmation.

“The world is evolving in such a direful manner that one of the countries has already adopted the legislation allowing gender affirmation for the persons over 14 without permission and persons under 14 with the consent of the parents. I truly cherished a hope that this stream would stop at this point but the other day I came across an even worse article – if a parent resists, children of 12-13 are already given the right to sue them. Thus, we need to urgently take preventive steps to get assured that our children will keep calling us “mam” and “sir” instead of some neutral abstruse terms”, - he stated.
