The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee approved the Draft Law on the Rehabilitation and Support of Juveniles in Conflict with the Law for the II reading

The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee deliberated on and approved the Draft Law on the Rehabilitation and Support of Juveniles in Conflict with the Law and the companion Bills for the II reading.

According to the draft law, its provisions will apply to the minors with respect to whom there is a reasonable presumption that they have committed an act prohibited by the Criminal Code of Georgia, and who, at the time of committing this act, had not yet reached the age of 14.

The draft law defines the rules for conducting and monitoring the rehabilitation and support process for a minor in conflict with the law, as well as the powers of the agencies/institutions involved in the process and the procedures for their coordinated work.

The draft law regulates issues related to the system and process of rehabilitation and support for minors in conflict with the law, the Rehabilitation and Support House for Minors, the education of minors placed in such a house, and matters related to persons involved in the minor’s resocialization and support process.

The purpose of the draft law is to ensure the resocialization, rehabilitation, and support of minors in conflict with the law through the identification of their individual needs; to prevent acts prohibited by the Criminal Code; and to define the rights and responsibilities of the agencies/institutions involved in the rehabilitation and support process of minors in conflict with the law.

The Draft is authored and initiated by MPs Rati Ionatamishvili, Archil Gorduladze, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, David Matikashvili, Zurab Kadagidze, Tornike Cheishvili, Salome Jinjolava, and Aluda Gudushauri.
