The Legal Affairs Committee approved the Draft Railway Code

The Legal Affairs Committee approved the Draft Railway Code for the I reading.
The draft law stipulates that, along railway routes and at railway stations, the protection of cargo and railway transport facilities shall be carried out by the Department of Security Police on the basis of a relevant agreement concluded with the railway operator.
At the same time, the list of such cargo shall be determined by the railway operator in agreement with the Department of Security Police. The Department of Security Police shall be responsible for the protection of the cargo and railway transport facilities entrusted to it, in accordance with the conditions defined by the relevant agreement. Contracts concluded by Georgian Railway with private security organizations for the protection of cargo and railway transport facilities prior to the entry into force of this law shall remain valid until the expiration of their respective terms.
The Draft is authored by the Interior Ministry and initiated by the Government.
