Nikoloz Samkharadze held meetings in the Parliament of Malaysia

Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, serves on the official visit to Malaysia. Within the framework of the visit, he met with the Deputy President of the Senate, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, and the Chair of the Foreign Relations and Trade Committee of the House of Representatives, Wong Chen.
The central topic of the meetings addressed bilateral relations in the political, trade, educational and tourism spheres.
Mr. Samkharadze thanked his Malaysian colleagues for their support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
“During the meetings, we emphasised the paramount significance of the parliamentary dimension of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. We underscored that ASEAN serves as a highly effective platform for Georgia to establish enhanced connections with Southeast Asian countries. Furthermore, we highlighted the dynamics of bilateral relations and the investment capabilities”, - he stated.
The parties engaged in a review of regional security concerns. N. Samkharadze provided information on the situation in the regions of Georgia that are currently under Russian occupation, as well as the Black Sea region’s security, including the Russian aggression in Ukraine and its repercussions on the South Caucasus.
The Malaysian colleagues informed Mr. Samkharadze about the economic and political situation in the Southeast Asian countries, accentuating the negative impact of the USA-China trade tariffs on the ASEAN states.
Nikoloz Samkharadze serves on an official visit to Malaysia to attend the ASEAN PA annual session of the 46TH General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) “Parliament at the Forefront for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable ASEAN”.
