Shalva Papuashvili met with the Delegation of the National Assembly of Armenia

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the Delegation of the National Assembly of Armenia.

Shalva Papuashvili positively assessed the cooperation between the legislative bodies of Georgia and Armenia.

The Speaker noted that geopolitical changes are taking place worldwide and that prospects are emerging for establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Armenian Parliament, Sargis Khandanyan, positively evaluated the format of the joint meeting between the Foreign Relations Committees of the Parliaments of Georgia and Armenia, describing it as a good opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and regional dynamics.

He spoke about Armenia’s foreign policy, which, according to him, is primarily focused on advancing regional cooperation and developing good-neighborly relations.

The parties discussed the situation in the South Caucasus and the prospects for regional peace. Sargis Khandanyan expressed gratitude for Georgia’s efforts in promoting regional peace. In particular, he emphasized the importance of the decision by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, according to which the railway transportation of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia, through Georgia, will be carried out once, entirely free of charge.

The meeting also touched upon the ongoing negotiations between Armenia and Turkey and their possible outcomes.

The parties additionally reviewed developments in the domestic politics of both countries and the reforms planned.

The meeting was also attended by the First Vice-Speaker of Parliament and Head of the Friendship Group with Armenia, Giorgi Volski.
