The Draft Organic Law on Local Self-Government Code submitted for expedited consideration

Pursuant to the Draft Organic Law on Local Self-Government Code, the member of the Municipal Assembly, elected with the nomination of the political party, shall enjoy the right to set up the Faction if he/she was nominated as a non-party candidate or if he/she quits a respective political party to join another party.

The legal initiative, developed by the Majority MPs was introduced to the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee by the Chair of the Committee, Irakli Kadagishvili for the I reading.

According to him, the draft amendments, submitted for expedited consideration, shall apply to the members of the Municipal Assembly elected through the Municipal Elections 2025 until the recognition of authority of the Municipal Assembly elections by the Elections in 2029.

As the Committee members estimated, the amendments shall enhance the efficiency of the Assembly and thus, the Committee approved the Draft.

Zviad Shalamberidze, the First Deputy Chair of the Committee, introduced the new legal initiative on the amendments to the Code.

"In many cases, Commission Chairs are unable to hold commission meetings for honourable reasons, which may hinder the Assembly’s activities. In such situations, if the Deputy Chair of the Commission is present, they should be given the opportunity to conduct the meeting”, - he elucidated.

The Committee approved the initiative.
