The Legal Affairs Committee approved the Draft Law on Police

The Legal Affairs Committee deliberated on the Draft Law on Police for the I reading and expedited procedure, concerning the higher educational institution status for the MIA Police Academy.
The Draft grants the MIA Police Academy a higher educational status and retitles it as the Public Safety and Police Academy.
The Draft specifies the regulations pertaining to the enrollment, academic process and the students’ status in the Academy.
As the reporter, the Deputy Interior Minister, Alexander Darakhvelidze elucidated, the amendments will highly facilitate the attraction of new police officers of high qualifications, capable of effectively exercising the task outlined for the Ministry.
“The Draft Law proposes the establishment of a new bachelor’s programme within the police system. It is imperative that no other university will be permitted to offer a similar programme. Furthermore, the state undertakes to provide all students with the necessary components of their education, including nutrition, accommodation, uniforms, tactical, physical and combat training. Upon completion of their studies, the state will ensure their employment within the system”, - he noted.
According to him, the current special and professional qualification programs applied in the Academy will remain valid as a second direction of the institution.
The reporter shared the position of the Committee members to hold a joint deliberation on the one-year master’s program for the Security Service.
