The Committees deliberated on the legal initiative of the Goverment

The Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, and the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, at the joint sitting, deliberated on the Draft Product Safety and Free Movement Code, introduced by Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Economy and Sustainable Development Minister, together with the accompanying legal package.
According to him, the amendments apply to sundry directions, namely, the fulfillment of the Association Agreement committments, compliance of the product supervision at market, and the establishment of modern standards.
“The introduced amendments will ensure the compliance of the penalties established for the violation of the exploitation safety regulations by the facilities with increased technical risks with the expected threat. The hereof Draft Code also carries a preventive nature, in accordance with which, the owners of the facilities with increased technical risks, in case of the increased penalties, shall attach higher attention to the safety and security regulations at their facilities. In its turn, it will mitigate the threats that may be posed to human lives, health, property or environment”, - he reported.
He also introduced information about the primary changes and the elimination of technical gaps in the draft. As he elucidated, the Draft envisages the effective date of the market supervision regulations as June 1, 2026, which will be in full compliance with the European legislation.
The Committees approved the documents as follows: the Draft Product Safety and Free Movement Code, Draft Law on Declaring the amendments to the Product Safety and Free Movement Code Void, and the Draft Law on State Procurements.
