Mariam Lashkhi addressed the International Conference on Medical Education

Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, participated in the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Medical Education (ICME 2025).
As she noted in her address, the Conference is particularly relevant today, when the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, has officially announced the wide-scale higher education reform. According to her, medical education is a priority of the reform, inasmuch as it is directly connected to human life and health.
“We believe that a strong education is the foundation of a strong state and that a strong medical education is the guarantee of a healthy society. We aspire to establish a distinguished position on the global educational map as a country committed to quality and innovation”, - she stated.
As per her statement, Georgia has a rich medical tradition and particular potential in the medical sciences, including biotechnologies. It is renowned for its unique genetic resources, a history of phagotherapy research and highly qualified scientific personnel, which provide a solid foundation for the development of modern biomedical innovations and international cooperation.
M. Lashkhi reviewed medical education in Georgia and identified the imperative of enhancing its quality, integrating research and practice, improving international accreditation and recognition and providing the youth with new opportunities for professional development.
The Conference is attended by international and local experts in the medical education sphere. The Conference aims to facilitate the medical education system and enhance international cooperation.
The Conference is held in Tbilisi Medical University on October 30-31.
