Nikoloz Samkharadze addressing the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly

Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, serves an official visit to Phnom Penh to attend the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly dedicated to peace and security issues.
"Historically, Southeast Asia stands as one of the most affluent and culturally and ethnically diverse regions globally. Consequently, its involvement in addressing global issues holds paramount importance and relevance”, - N. Samkharadze underscored in his address.
He highlighted the grave situation in the occupied regions of Georgia and thanked the Assembly member states for their unwavering support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
N. Samkharadze provided a review of the global security challenges, including the Russian occupation and the developments in the Black Sea region. Samkharadze emphasised the paramount importance of adhering to international law in the pursuit of peace and stability.
“We are witnessing alarming trends when certain countries, referring to the crisis solution reasons, resort to harsh power, which further aggravates conflicts and international crises. The increasing number of armed conflicts, exacerbated by the alarming war rhetoric of some high-ranking politicians, poses a threat to global security. Georgia is committed to contributing to the realisation of peace initiatives”, - he remarked.
Georgia has assumed the role of an observer member of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly since 2023 and actively participates in the events convened under its auspices.
