The Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee deliberated on the Draft Organic Law on the Election Code

The Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee deliberated on the revised Draft Organic Law on the Election Code, introduced by David Matikashvili, Chair of the Procedural Issues Committee.

According to him, the Draft Organic Law initiated by the Majority MPs envisages the determination of terms, specification of the procedures and the reflection of the transitional provisions to the Code.

“The new edition of the Draft Organic Law clarifies the termination of certain terms, including in terms of the elections, referendum/plebiscite within the state borders of Georgia. In view of the adherence to the personal data protection principle, the Draft specifies the video recording rules. In order to ensure due preparation for the elections, the Draft establishes the legal basis for the officers of the state agencies and electoral administration”, - he elucidated.

As per his information, the rules for the participation of voters residing in other countries in elections are being changed, and similar to municipal elections, the elections of the Parliament will be held only within the state borders of Georgia.

In this regard, Davit Matikashvili provided additional clarifications and discussed the reasons why it is important for elections to be conducted exclusively within the state borders of Georgia.

According to the reporter, the technical amendments are introduced to the companion draft laws.

The Committee considered the revised version as acceptable and approved the document.
