Shalva Papuashvili: A New Year, 2026, Is Dawning—We Welcome It with Great Hope, Clear Plans, and Renewed Energy. It Will Be a Year That Marks a New Starting Point

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, has extended New Year greetings to the citizens.
As stated in the Speaker’s message, Georgia welcomes 2026 with hope, clear plans, and renewed energy. According to him, it will be a year that marks a new starting point.
“Dear compatriots, our fellow citizens living abroad, our Abkhaz and Ossetian sisters and brothers, the year 2025—marked by challenges and confrontation—has come to an end. It was a historic and distinctive year.
It was a year that clearly defined Georgia’s state choice and national priorities.
In the past year, our country withstood decisive pressure aimed at restricting Georgia’s sovereign rights, influencing the will of the Georgian people, and subordinating us to the plans of others.
The year 2025 was the year when Georgia firmly refused to participate in others’ scenarios and to allow its future to be gambled with. Together, we defended this choice and demonstrated strong unity. Together, we restored the concept of the national interest to the political and public space as the fundamental basis of state action.
A new year, 2026, is dawning. We welcome it with great hope, clear plans, and renewed energy. It will be a year that becomes a new point of reference.
This year, we must gradually, calmly, and thoughtfully begin a new phase of nation-building. This process must be grounded in our historical heritage while at the same time ensuring a clear articulation of a modern national identity in line with the spirit of the times.
The world must clearly understand who we are, where we stand, what drives us, what we protect, and what we are building. Everyone must know who we were yesterday, who we are today, and who we will be tomorrow.
On this path, we are guided by the wisdom and knowledge passed down by our ancestors, a legacy imbued with love for and care of the homeland.
That is why we are not afraid to make any decision that serves Georgia’s vital interests.
In the service of these interests, we stand together—young and old, women and men, clergy and laypeople alike.
In 2026, Georgia will mark a special anniversary—the 1700th anniversary of the Christianization of Georgia, underscoring once again our historical continuity, spiritual foundation, and civilizational role.
For this very reason, from the Bodbe Monastery, I congratulate you on the arrival of the New Year 2026.
May Saint Nino bless all of Georgia and protect our parents and our children!
Let us be and live in unity, for strength lies in unity!” - the message states.
