Media and Society 29 Nov 2025
The Education, Science and Youth Affairs, and the Diaspora Committees held a joint sitting in Telavi
The Education, Science and Youth Affairs, and the Diaspora Committees held a joint sitting in Telavi, dedicated to the state support for the Georgian Sunday Schools abroad.

Tamar Makharashvili, Deputy Education, Science and Youth Minister, represented the supportive programs and new initiatives. The remote learning platform “Georgian Language for Immigrants” was introduced.

The reporter states that over 3,100 students from over 70 countries have registered on the platform.

The sitting, online attended by the diaspora representatives from various countries, addressed the challenges and solutions for the state support for the Georgian Sunday Schools abroad.

It was noted that supporting and strengthening Georgian Sunday schools is essential in order to ensure that Georgian children living abroad have the opportunity to learn their native language and culture.

After the conclusion, the Education, Science and Youth Affairs  Committee discussed the issue of developing early and preschool education.

The report and its recommendations—prepared within the framework of the conference “Development of Early and Preschool Education in Georgia: Challenges, Achievements, and Future Perspectives”—were presented by Eka Sepashvili, Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Political Group “People’s Power” and a member of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs  Committee.

According to the reporter, implementation of the recommendations requires coordinated work among several executive agencies and local self-government bodies.

“One of the recommendations concerns the development of a scheme for entering, remaining in, and advancing within the profession for educators employed in kindergartens, along with consideration of a remuneration scheme and basic salary. Of particular importance is the recommendation aimed at strengthening patriotic and national values in kindergarten curricula through the promotion of Georgian folklore, child stories, and animated characters”, - stated Eka Sepashvili.

It was emphasized that the implementation of these recommendations will be an important step toward effective management of kindergartens, safeguarding the best interests of children, and ensuring the provision of quality education.

The Committee took note of the report.
